PayPal Issues

A number of folks have asked why we no longer offer PayPal as a payment option at Laurel Cove Outfitters, so I thought I’d post the explanation here. At some point PayPal revised their policies to make the sale of ammunition and certain firearm magazines using PayPal for payment a violation of their Terms of Use. We’ve been offering PayPal as a payment option at laurelcoveoutfitters.com since our site went live in 2003 without any issues, so had not paid too much attention to notifications of changes in their policies….

Recently, we received notification that our PayPal account had been “restricted” due to violation of their Terms of Use just after a customer had used PayPal to pay for his ammunition purchase with us. We were told we needed to remove all ammunition and magazines with over 10-round capacity from our site in order to have the restriction removed (allowing access to the funds in our PayPal account) and to continue offering PayPal as a payment option. Rather than doing that, we opted instead to remove PayPal as a payment option.

We understand that many folks feel more comfortable using PayPal for their online purchases, but would like to emphasize that our credit card payment system is SSL encrypted and we do not store credit card numbers or CVV codes in our database, so you can have confidence that your transaction is secure when you shop with us using your MasterCard, Visa, Discover, or Amex credit card.

Ammunition Shortage?

The Associated Press reported earlier this week (read the article here) that a lot of folks are having a hard time finding ammunition because of shortages supposedly resulting from people stockpiling ammo due to fears of possible gun legislation by the Obama administration and Democrat-led congress.
Well, while there may be some truth to the report, I just wanted to let our customers know that Laurel Cove Outfitters is still getting supplies of centerfire handgun ammunition, centerfire rifle ammunition, rimfire ammunition, and shotgun shells on a regular basis.
